Make services easier to reach

Older adults may face practical barriers when reaching health or community services: long travel, stairs, limited transport, or difficulty hearing and reading information. Small adjustments—clear directions, seating, respectful communication, and help arranging travel—can make a visit easier.

Ask the person what support they want instead of assuming. Keep health details private and allow time for questions. If a concern needs medical attention, help the person connect with a qualified health professional. Community support should strengthen a person's independence, not remove their choices.
